6th
Annual Newmarket Heritage Festival
In
the heart of historic downtown Newmarket, New Hampshire
Dance
and sing! Laugh and learn! Eat and be merry! Once a year,
the Heritage Festival gives Newmarket residents, old and new,
a chance to come together and celebrate our richly textured
past. Standing watch over the festivities, like silent sentinels,
are the buildings that first shaped this town. The mills,
where so many labored so hard, are tangible reminders that
by working‹and celebrating--together it is possible
to achieve a sense of community, a place of belonging. We
hope you'll join us!
New
this year:
Board the gundalow, a replica of the historic vessels that
sailed the Great Bay. Check out a model railway (S-gauge)
complete with bells and whistles, smoke and diesel roar. Meet
live baby lampreys and horseshoe crabs. Watch a boat builder,
a fly-tier, and a waterfowl carver at work. Create a community
quilt. Weave a tapestry. Learn an Irish dance. Sit down to
a Sunday brunch featuring the harmonies of Labrys, along with
the talents of Synchonicity, Newmarket's competition jump-rope
team. Hear stories of life in the mills told by those who
worked among the pounding of the looms. For details:. 2003
Schedule.* On the Waterfront.
